“Pregnancy health does not stop after the baby is born. It is most important to recognise that mental health support after pregnancy is crucial to mothers”,said Dr Siti Khadijah Ismail, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist of JPMC during her interview. She also stressed the importance of taking healthy well-balanced food, daily moderate exercise and taking care of emotional health during pregnancy.

The forum also involved a panel discussion by JPMC mothers and lactation specialists giving the participants an opportunity to engage in an interactive discussion on how to care for themselves and their baby throughout their entire pregnancy and beyond.

Also present during the forum was Mr Sophian Abdul Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of StemLife Berhadin which JPMC established a collaborative partnership with since September last year, providing comprehensive cord blood and cord tissue stem cell banking services which includes collection, transportation, processing and cryopreservation services in Brunei Darussalam.

“As a healthcare organisation focussing on the needs of the mother and child, we are pleased to support JPMC in this meaningful forum. Other than the potential benefits of saving the child’s stem cells, we believe that screening the child for possible inborn errors of metabolism would give additional peace of mind to the mothers. We are happy to share our experiences on both at this forum,” said Mr Sophian during his interview.
